A sandy beach backed by dunes and a championship golf course. There are rock pools to explore, a pier and a nature reserve nearby.

Activities

Gold, rockpooling and fishing is popular, especially from the pier. There is an excellent variety of coastal walks.

Wildlife and Walks

Stroll along to the Barmouth with its nature reserve, or venture along the cliff top to explore ‘The Moor’ headland, or take time to explore the nearby Downhill Forest.

Water samples are taken at this designated bathing water by the Northern Ireland Environment Agency, during the bathing season, 1st June to 15th September.

High levels of bacteria in the water can indicate pollution from sewage treatment works or polluted rain water draining from the land.
Where does pollution comes from and how can you help?

Water quality can be reduced for up to 72 hours after heavy rain. Look out for temporary signs at the beach and on our website.

Excellent — the highest classification meaning the water is cleanest

Good — generally good water quality

Sufficient — meets minimum standards

Poor — You are advised not to swim. The beach will stay open and an action plan should be in place to improve the water quality.

Approx 100 free spaces alongside promenade adjacent to beach. Also, parking on section of beach to right of main entrance is permitted, although vehicular access may be restricted due to soft sand.
