Privately owned by Carbis Bay Hotel & Spa, Carbis Bay Beach is 25 acres of golden sand. With a stunning view across St Ives Bay, the beach is usually sheltered and in the summer months Lifeguard protected. The Beach and facilities are managed daily by the hotel.


Excellent opportunities for swimming for individuals and families with toddlers. Watersports are restricted and power craft are banned. You can fish, kayak, canoe and surf here. Events for local school children are held year round and Ocean Sports provide instruction and equipment for watersports.

Wildlife and Walks

The beach is on the Southwest Coastal Footpath. There is a public right of way across West Cornwall Golf Course and there are cycle routes via back roads from Carbis Bay. You can walk to St Ives or Hayle Estuary via coastal footpaths, where there is an RSPB reserve - access at low tide.

Water samples are taken at this designated bathing water by the Environment Agency, during the bathing season, 15th May to 30th September.

Water quality can be reduced for up to 72 hours after heavy rain. Look out for temporary signs at the beach and on our website.

At the end of every bathing season the water quality is classified as either:

Excellent — the highest classification meaning the water is cleanest

Good — generally good water quality

Sufficient — meets minimum standards

Poor — You are advised not to swim. The beach will stay open and an action plan should be in place to improve the water quality.
