Canvey Island beach is just east of Thorney Bay Beach and is situated in the Thames Estuary, off the south east coast of Essex and separated from the mainland by a channel. The beach is made up of sand and mud and has a view of the Kent coastline.


Windsurfing is popular. There are amusement arcades nearby and places to eat out. Kismet Park and garden is to the east of the beach.

Wildlife and Walks

The RSPBS West Canvey Marsh is a few miles north west of the beach and has a wonderful array of birds from Lapwing, Little egret and Redshank to Marsh harrier and Shoveler - their website has more information. Enjoy fantastic views and on the 4 mile-long sea-wall footpath which encircles Canvey.
