Broadstairs main beach - a sandy bay with boardwalk, lift and cliff-top promenade. The picturesque harbour pier has traditional pubs, restaurants, shops and amusments nearby. There are a host of facilities for children to enjoy including rides, surf school with surf ski/belly boards.


There are many activities for children to enjoy and there is a surf school. The Dickens House Museum & Information Point is behind the beach. The Thanet Coast Project operates around this part of the coast - the project aims to raise awareness about and protect coastal wildlife.

Wildlife and Walks

Enjoy promenade strolls and coastal walks. There are numerous reserves in this gorgeous part of the UK including: Sandwich & Pegwell Bay, Monkton Nature Reserve and Sandwich Bay Bird Observatory Trust run regular events throughout the year.

Water samples are taken at this designated bathing water by the Environment Agency, during the bathing season, 15th May to 30th September.

Where does pollution comes from and how can you help?

Water quality can be reduced for up to 72 hours after heavy rain. Look out for temporary signs at the beach and on our website.

At the end of every bathing season the water quality is classified as either:

Excellent — the highest classification meaning the water is cleanest

Good — generally good water quality

Sufficient — meets minimum standards

Poor — You are advised not to swim. The beach will stay open and an action plan should be in place to improve the water quality.
