Popular with families, Bovisand is a lovely sheltered bay with golden sands. You can enjoy some much needed tea and cake at the Cliffedge Cafe which sits on top of the surrounding cliffs.

Activities

The beach is perfect for swimming and snorkelling. The scenery is fantastic with views across Plymouth Sound.

Wildlife and Walks

The beach is situated on the Coast Path. Walk north walk to Plymouth (5 miles) or, a little further, walk south east to the River Yealm passing other beautiful bays - Heybrook and Wembury. The beach is within the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Water samples are taken at this designated bathing water by the Environment Agency, during the bathing season, 15th May to 30th September.

Water quality can be reduced for up to 72 hours after heavy rain. Look out for temporary signs at the beach and on our website.

At the end of every bathing season the water quality is classified as either:

Excellent — the highest classification meaning the water is cleanest

Good — generally good water quality

Sufficient — meets minimum standards

Poor — You are advised not to swim. The beach will stay open and an action plan should be in place to improve the water quality.
