A beach with a growing surfing community and with easy access to a number of surf shops in Southbourne. There is a restaurant, cafe and kiosks on the seafront. The wide sandy beaches are ideal for families and for people to walk their dogs in the dog exercise areas.


Popular activities here inclde: swimming, sailing, fishing, surfing, kite surfing, paddle boarding and water skiing. Areas of the beach have been zoned - No Smoking and Kidzone. Beach hut hire is also available.

Wildlife and Walks

A three kilometre undercliff walk leads from Fisherman’s Walk east to Hengistbury Head. The seafront promenade is 10km long stretching from Southbourne to Alum Chine and then on to Sandbanks.

Water samples are taken at this designated bathing water by the Environment Agency, during the bathing season, 15th May to 30th September.

Sufficient — meets minimum standards
