Alum Chine’s beach boasts a variety of beach huts, including the new exclusive chalets close to the tropical gardens, a children’s play area including a wet play park and a restaurant. Beach hut hire available.

Activities

Popular activities are swimming, sailing, fishing, surfing, canoeing, jet skiing, windsurfing, power boating and water skiing. No Smoking area and Kidzone. There are Tropical Gardens located adjacent to the beach and Westbourne shopping centre is a short walk away through the Chine.

Wildlife and Walks

The Bournemouth cliffs provide an ideal habitat for the nationally rare sand lizard and smooth snake, as well as many plant species. The tropical gardens at Alum Chine also offer a unique habitat and variety of wildlife.

Water samples are taken at this designated bathing water by the Environment Agency, during the bathing season, 15th May to 30th September.

Good — generally good water quality

Sufficient — meets minimum standards

Roadside parking along the overcliff drive. Pay and display carpark located at entrance to Alum Chine seafront.

Dog restrictions

 

Dogs not allowed between groynes 3 and 5 between May 1st to September 30th. These areas are clearly marked with signage.

Beach cleaning

Cleaned daily during the summer and weekly the rest of the year.
