Today's forecast

Belvoir Bay is a beautifully secluded beach on the east coast of Herm Island. Its location shelters the beach from the prevailing southerly and westerly winds, and is a favourite of visitors to the island.

There is a beach cafe serving snacks, toys, beach games, postcards and ice creams from mid April until mid September.

Wildlife and Walks

From Belvoir Bay, walking the coast of Herm in either direction is possible. Travelling North will ensure you arrive at Shell beach, where off the North East coast of the Island “the humps” conservation area houses an atlantic seal colony. Walking south will pass the rugged southern cliffs of Herm. Puffin Bay hosts puffins from Mid March to Mid July.

What's tested here?

Water samples are not taken at this beach because it has not been designated as a bathing water and there is no voluntary sampling.
Why isn't this a designated bathing water?

High levels of bacteria in the water can indicate pollution from sewage treatment works or polluted rain water draining from the land.
Where does pollution comes from and how can you help?

Water quality can be reduced for up to 72 hours after heavy rain. Look out for temporary signs at the beach and on our website.

Annual classification

2017 Not tested

What does this mean?

At the end of every bathing season the water quality is classified as either:

Excellent — the highest classification meaning the water is cleanest

Good — generally good water quality

Sufficient — meets minimum standards

Poor — You are advised not to swim. The beach will stay open and an action plan should be in place to improve the water quality.
