Sandy beaches, a few rocks, large sand dunes and beautiful views towards the Farne Islands. Bamburgh lies on the Northumberland coast in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.


Swimming, fishing, surfing and wind surfing are popular here. There is a golf club nearby and views of Bamburgh Castle.

Wildlife and Walks

Forming part of the Northumberland AONB, this is a stunning area which is fantastic for walking. You can also take a boat trip to the fabulous Farne Islands to see puffins, grey seals and other seabirds - the National Trust has more information.

Water samples are taken at this designated bathing water by the Environment Agency, during the bathing season, 15th May to 30th September.

Water quality can be reduced for up to 72 hours after heavy rain. Look out for temporary signs at the beach and on our website.

Excellent — the highest classification meaning the water is cleanest

Good — generally good water quality

Sufficient — meets minimum standards

Poor — You are advised not to swim. The beach will stay open and an action plan should be in place to improve the water quality.
