Map https://goo.gl/maps/1QhCQkCik2w Please note this is the FORT BOVISAND side (not café Bovisand). Use the Postcode PL9 0AD to get to Cliff Edge Café. Ideally car share or use the Plymouth bus service to avoid taking all the spaces. There is a charge for the car park. Please arrive promptly to be equipped and briefed as a group.

Before your beach clean event, it would be great if you could be aware of, and prepare, the following:

  • Please bring strong gloves (gardening-type gloves) if you can – it’s safer if you use your own. You can buy them for £1 from pound shop or £2 at Wilco
  • Have a pen or pencil with you
  • Carry a pocket-size hand sanitiser if you have some (although some will be available). Use it as soon as you finish cleaning
  • Bring a face covering, in case somebody needs to cross the 2m divide to get to you urgently!
  • Bring along a litter picker if you have one (optional)
  • This is a SURVEY of litter in some detail and not just a clean, so please expect and agree to take part in the recording process

Do keep an eye on the weather and dress accordingly e.g. bring waterproofs, warm clothes, hats or sun screen. It is the British summer after all!  Please wear sturdy shoes with grips, not flip flops or sandals. It’s often either a lot colder than you think, or very exposed to sun and wind on the beach, so layer up and bring along a drink, ideally in a re-usable bottle to reduce litter we create. If you need any medication, bring it with you and if you have any mobility issues let me know. The steps down to this beach are VERY steep and large. There is an easier but longer walk down/up. There is very little shade on the beach itself.

The event will maintain social distancing. We will be briefing you ahead of the clean about staying safe, but please also read the following beforehand, so that you know what to expect:

  • Our Coronavirus Health and Safety Guidance for attendees of beach cleans https://www.mcsuk.org/what-you-can-do/join-a-beach-clean/volunteer-safety-and-covid19/
  • If you are showing symptoms of Coronavirus, or live with anyone who is, please stay at home and do not attend your clean. In the unlikely event that we have to cancel the beach clean due to weather, heightened restrictions or leaders showing any symptoms we will let you know by email so please do check your account the day before. Again, please expect to carry out a FULL and detailed survey for government monitoring at this event, rather than a fun beach clean. Probably not suitable for younger children for this reason.

All children under 16 must be accomapnied by an adult.

Also worth knowing…

What to bring: We’d recommend you pack a rucksack with a few essentials like sunscreen, waterproofs, hand sanitiser, and perhaps some snacks and a drink (in a reusable bottle, of course).

What to wear: If you're picking up litter with your hands it's worth wearing a strong pair of gloves - like gardening gloves - just to make sure you're protected. Sturdy shoes are a must for protection too.

Under 16s: To comply with our insurance, volunteers under 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult who will be asked to sign a parental / guardian consent form on the day by the beach clean organiser.
