Join this Marine Conservation Society beach clean to help us stop harmful litter from reaching the ocean and collect vital data that we can use to bring about positive change for our seas.

MCS beach cleans are a bit different. The aim is not only to get litter off the beach and out of the sea but also to understand how bad the problem is.

For this reason this beach clean will focus on a 100 metre stretch of beach and you'll need to record the amount of litter taken from the beach.  This 100 metre stretch of beach was last surveyed & recorded 3 years ago.  We will complete  the Beachwatch survey forms as we collect.

Please click here to find out more about why we survey and the importance of collecting the data.

You will be given instructions, survery forms and a brief health and safety talk at the start of the event.

We expect to take 1 hour to clean and catalogue 100 metres of Woodhill Bay, Portishead, however you are more than welcome to stay longer and continue cleaning further down the beach.

What to bring: We’d recommend you pack a rucksack with a few essentials like sunscreen, waterproofs, hand sanitiser, and perhaps some snacks and a drink.

What to wear: If you're picking up litter with your hands it's worth wearing a strong pair of gloves - like gardening gloves - just to make sure you're protected. Sturdy shoes are a must for protection too.

Under 16s: To comply with our insurance, volunteers under 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult who will be asked to sign a parental / guardian consent form on the day by the beach clean organiser.

Buckets and containers will be provided to collect the item from the beach surface, but please bring your own gloves – such as gardening gloves.

It’s advisable you check the weather forecast ahead of the event to wear suitable clothing & sturdy footwear.

Parking - You can park along Esplanade Road.

Dogs are permitted on this beach.
