To Michael Gove, Roseanna Cunningham and Lesley Griffiths
We need to stop plastic killing life in the oceans.
The tide of plastic has risen to a whopping 70% of litter found on our beaches*.
You have the power to change the habits of our throwaway society. You can put a stop to the ongoing environmental disaster of ocean plastic pollution. Please impose levies in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland on single-use plastic items such as plastic cups and lids, straws, plates and cutlery.
*Great British Beach Clean report 2017
The time has come for levies on single-use plastic. Join our call.
Our volunteers are watching, surveying and picking up the ever increasing plastic pollution that is killing sea turtles and other animals.
We will not let drinks cups, plastic cutlery, straws, plastic bottles, lids and stirrers replace sealife.
They are used for a moment and last a lifetime in our oceans.
It is time to put a STOP to this ongoing environmental disaster.
We need a large scale change in the mindset of our throwaway society – and Governments are in the position to make this happen.
These items are too cheap, their price does not reflect the damage they do to nature and ourselves.
We are not asking for bans or limitations to freedom but simply to use a fiscal lever to discourage use of these items, like we did with tobacco, air pollution, alcohol and other harmful substances.
If you had to pay £1 for that straw in your drink – the straw you didn’t want in the first place and chucked after a few seconds – would you still want it? Would anyone?
Please sign our petition to the governments of England, Scotland, Wales and N. Ireland calling for levies on single-use plastic.
Help us STOP the plastic tide TODAY.
2018 is the year we go plastic free. Be part of it.
