For over 175 years our brands and imprints have been a trusted source of knowledge to these communities and today, more than ever, we see it as our responsibility to ensure that fundamental knowledge can be found, verified, understood and used by our communities – enabling them to improve outcomes, make progress, and benefit the generations that follow.

Our Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) publishing programme aims to connect the researchers who are tackling the world’s toughest challenges with the practitioners in policy and business who desperately need those insights to achieve their goals in improving the world.

Why we care about the ocean

The oceans supply substantial amounts of the world's food, but are often ignored in discussions about combating hunger and making food systems sustainable.

With this in mind, Springer Nature’s SDG14 (Life Below Water) hub contains high-level overviews from research consortia with a view to influencing discussions by heads of state and decision-makers in various sectors of society and policy making.

One example is the peer-reviewed outputs of the Norwegian government's international High Level Panel (HLP) for a Sustainable Ocean Economy, intended to stimulate the UN Ocean Summit. Another approach is to enhance oceans-related outputs across all of our imprints, all of our content types, and across the academic disciplines.
