Working with industry
MCS offers companies and industry leaders a unique opportunity to make a positive difference to our seas. We engage with businesses who can make significant steps towards a better sea environment - perhaps by improving working practices, identifying sustainable procurement policies, or engaging the workforce in conservation projects - and promoting such improvements across their wider industry.
This is especially important in our fisheries work, where real benefits for fish and for fishers can only be gained through a collaborative approach. We encourage supermarkets, caterers and restaurants to buy sustainable seafood and inspire consumers to go beyond the common seafood choices. We collaborate with partners, such as the Good Catch Group, to achieve results that we could not achieve on our own.

MCS has worked with Marks & Spencer since 2005, helping to raise consumer awareness and increase choice of sustainable seafood in their stores. Fisheries Officer, David Parker, meets regularly with the M&S Wild Fish and Aquaculture team to discuss their sourcing policy and aquaculture issues. Through this guidance, MCS has aided the development of a leading and comprehensive seafood sourcing policy.
Companies can support MCS directly in a number of ways - visit the corporate supporter pages to find out how.
