We work with the aquaculture industry
MCS believes that we need an in-depth understanding of the industries we work with, which is why every year we go and work with them! We have a unique industry hands-on experience programme, where our aquaculture officer works in one sector of industry for a week every year including Loch Duart salmon farm, No Catch cod farm and the feed manufacturer, Biomar. This year Dragon Feeds, the ragworm farm in Wales, will be hosting the experience.
We also take part in several working groups that bring industry and environmental organisations together to achieve common goals, such as the Common Issues Group; WWF Aquaculture Dialogues; Containment Working Group and the International Fishmeal and Fish Oil Organisation.
As much of our seafood is imported, MCS needs to work with international organisations to improve standards of production. We work on the committees of the WWF Trout Aquaculture Dialogue and the International Fishmeal and Fish Oil Organisation Technical Advisory Committee to improve standards and represent the needs of the environment.
