New award to boost aquaculture innovation
MCS is delighted to hear that the Global Aquaculture Alliance has launched a new award to encourage innovations in aquaculture that reduce environmental impacts or increase sustainability. This award was the original idea of Dawn Purchase, MCS' Senior Aquaculture Officer, who hopes that the scheme will both attract a lot of applications and drive continuous improvement into the future.
The inaugural Global Aquaculture Innovation Award program -- sponsored by Novus International -- was announced on 1st November during GAA’s GOAL 2012 conference in Bangkok, Thailand. Innovations can span the full range of farm activities, including wetlands conservation, feed management, water-quality management, effluent reduction, energy reduction, staff training, community relations, animal welfare, and health and nutrition.
