Underwater cleanup

Beachwatch Big Weekend is not just about beach cleaning - you can also carry out a clean-up underwater.
Underwater clean-ups are co-ordinated by the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) in conjunction with Project AWARE Foundation (International) to coincide with the Beachwatch Big Weekend, organised by MCS, and International Coastal Clean-up day organised by the Ocean Conservancy and Project AWARE Foundation.

If you're a diver and are concerned about the litter you've seen underwater, why not take action and make a difference to your local marine environment? Recruit your diving friends and clean-up and survey your favourite dive site. Get your non-diving friends and family involved - they can help to record the litter that's been collected underwater (after your dive) or they can carry out their own clean up on-shore.

So why not register your dive site today! Project AWARE will provide you with a link to a specially designed Organisers Resources Page or send you a CD Rom containing everything you need to get organised .

Underwater Volunteers - View the online list of global cleanup locations to find an event near you.

The data collected during the underwater clean-ups is used in the annual Beachwatch Report and is forwarded to the Ocean Conservancy for inclusion in the International Coastal Cleanup Report each year.
