Join us at Weston-super-Mare for lunch and a clean up
The annual Coast magazine/MCS beachclean isn't far away - so sign up now for a great day by the sea
Every year, Coast readers and staff get together with MCS to spruce up a stretch of British shoreline. This year we're all off to Weston-super-Mare in North Somerset on Saturday 7 May, to give the main beach a clean up ready for the summer.
This will be the fourth time MCS and Coast have linked up. It's a really fun day out for everyone involved and this time we're starting a little bit later in the morning to make sure people have plenty of time to arrive at Weston and see the way this traditional resort has been re-vamped for the 21st century.
The event, sponsored by Joules, isn't all hard work though! There's coffee before we get on the beach and then lunch on the Grand Pier.
Weston’s Grade II-listed pier first opened in 1904, but its pavilion was tragically destroyed by fire on 28 July 2008. Following a £39million refurbishment, the pier re-opened last autumn and offers a wide range of indoor attractions, such as the UK’s first lazer maze, a 4D cinema, a Land Train and more.
On the day of the event, after meeting MCS and members of Coast over coffee, we'll clean up the shoreline. The litter we find will be weighed and analysed and added to our marine litter data. To end, lunch will be served on the Grand Pier, with an expected finish of 5.30pm, so there will still be time to explore the pier!
