Beachwatch Big Weekend
and The One Show

Around 4,000 people have been out on our beaches over the weekend, giving our beautiful coastline a much needed clean up. A big thank you goes to all of you who joined in after watching last Thursday's One Show!

This year's Big Weekend is over, but if you are thinking about taking part next year, please provide us with your contact details so that we can let you know all about it nearer the time.

The Marine Conservation Society (MCS) has organised the nation-wide MCS Beachwatch beach litter clean up and survey every year since 1993. Since then, we have found that beach litter levels have doubled, with the majority of litter made of plastic. We have used our data to show where our litter comes from, so that the problem can be tackled. We want to see a reduction in beach litter - not an increase - over future years. And you can help!

Some comments from people who have taken part in MCS Beachwatch before:

“I can honestly say that I have never spent
such an enjoyable day with so many really
decent people and I’m already looking
forward to the next...”

“Shattered now but feel as though
I’ve achieved something...thanks
for an enjoyable weekend.”

“Had a fantastic time from beginning to
end, so thanks to all those who had a hand
in organising this. Great to meet you all
and look forward to doing so again sooner
rather than later.”
