Big Blue Day
You can help dolphins, turtles and other sea life stand a much better chance of survival by organising a Big Blue Day to fundraise for MCS.
Your Big Blue Day can be held on any day that suits you. Maybe a dress down Friday at work or non uniform day at school, or to celebrate a birthday or World Oceans Day on 8th June.
World Oceans Day – June 8th
The vastness of our oceans has made us think that they could swallow up whatever we threw at them – but it’s just not the case.
Oceans cover over 70% of the Earth’s surface, but less than 1% is protected. Just two sites in UK waters are protected, compared to 4,000 land based sites. Our oceans support an estimated ten million species, only three percent of which have been identified.
World Oceans Day is a great excuse to shout about why you love the sea and the steps we can all take to protect it!
MCS Top tips to save our oceans:
1. Choose sustainable seafood and let our seas recover from overfishing. Use the MCS Good Fish Guide - the consumer guide to sustainable seafood.
2. Think before you flush. All drains lead to the sea, don’t flush any sanitary items – including cotton buds - they may just end up on a beach.
3. Say no to plastic bags and avoid plastic packaging.
MCS HQ celebrates World Oceans Day by turning the office into our own blue planet and we would love for you to join in with us. All you need is a group of people, some blue clothes and a few pounds to support our beautiful oceans.
Whatever you do, do it in blue!
