Pet lovers boost MCS funds by £40,000 in less than two years
A Lanarkshire based insurance company has raised almost £40,000 for the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) from the sales of its pet insurance product.
The Green Insurance Company has been working with MCS since March 2010 and has noticed a sharp rise in the number of customers choosing the society when selecting a charity for the insurer to give a donation to as part of its ethical giving process.
MCS is the UK’s leading charity for the protection of our seas, shores and wildlife. The voice for our seas for almost 30 years, MCS champions protection for marine wildlife, sustainable fisheries and clean seas and beaches.
“This partnership really has gone from strength to strength,” says MCS Corporate Fundraiser, Katharine Sharp. “We are delighted that The Green Insurance Company’s customers are choosing MCS, which shows that more and more of us understand the problems facing UK seas and the world’s oceans.”
Customers are able to choose from three charities, one of which is MCS, and The Green Insurance Company then donates on their behalf. MCS has proved to be the most popular, receiving a minimum donation of £5.00 per product from the insurer.
June Lynch, Managing Director of The Green Insurance Company, says helping MCS with funding their beach clean up operations, helping to raise awareness of the dangers of littering and funding their research into marine life are among the key reasons for choosing the charity.
“Our customers have been delighted with our support for all our charity partners, and we’re delighted to have donated more than £40,000 in the first 20 months of the partnership. In the UK we have some of the best beaches in the world and this is something we should be incredibly proud of and clearly our customers are.”
“It’s an honour to work with such an established and highly regarded organisation. We feel strongly that our beaches and coastlines should be properly protected and, if we can help MCS in some small way to achieve this, then that’s something that we’re incredibly proud of. Our partnership is going really well and we’re excited about where this could take us in the future.”
