how to help

coastal challenge

You can help MCS make a difference this year by joining MCS staff and fellow supporters in taking the MCS Coastal Challenge. ''The Coastal Challenge is fun, healthy and every step you take will be another step towards the recovery of our seas,'' says BBC presenter, Kate Humble. Kate is a keen supporter of MCS's work and wants to encourage people to get active to help save our seas.

Kate Humble

are you up for our coastal challenge?

coastThe UK has over 18,470 km (11,477 miles) of beautiful coastline and we want cover it all in a year with your help. Whether you want to take a sponsored coast-to-coast challenge, walk your favourite stretch of coastline, or add up miles on the treadmill, we would love to hear about it - by World Oceans Day 8th June together we hope to cover the entire distance and raise vital funds for our work.

We don’t mind how you do it (within reason & legality!), so whether you decide to walk, run, cycle, swim, sail or skip to raise money for the MCS, we just need to know the distance you cover so we can start chipping away at our grand total. With your help, we can do it!

"The sea provides us with food, it's a great playground and it's the biggest nature reserve we have," continues Kate. "But the sea is being exploited - used as a dumping ground for rubbish, fished until stocks are almost exhausted, and the seabed stripped bare. And just like the land, the sea is feeling the effects of global warming."

1. Choose your activity, event and distance.

Following feedback from our lovely challengers and supporters, we have decided to keep the Coastal Challenge going. Coastal Challenge has given us the chance to get in touch with supporters old and new, so don't hesitate - email fundraising@mcsuk.org with your challenge idea today!

So, whether it is to repeat the sucess of our first year, or to pull out all the stops and get there the second time around, please help our work to care for our seas, shores and wildlife by taking the Coastal Challenge!uwater.jpg

A big thank you to everyone who has taken the Coastal Challenge!

You have covered distance in many different ways, but by far the most popular is the coastal walk, closely followed by cycling and running. MCS staff have been bitten by the triathlon bug, and are planning the next event already, so watch this space...
