Working with you
In April 2000, MCS established a dedicated Scottish office in Edinburgh. A decade on, plenty has been achieved by the MCS team in Scotland, our volunteers, supporters and partners.
After tireless campaigning by MCS and conservation partners, the Marine (Scotland) Act finally leapt onto the statute books in March 2010; thousands have heard the marine conservation message at MCS talks and events; hundreds have taken part in Beachwatch surveys providing the evidence that supported our successful campaign for a Scottish Marine Litter Strategy; thousands of underwater Seasearch records are contributing to the evidence-base for new Scottish Marine Protected Areas, and also supported the case for Scotland’s first No-Take Zone in Lamlash Bay, Isle of Arran; and a ground-breaking MCS aquaculture programme is leading the way in campaigning for a sustainable aquaculture industry.
But we have so much more to do, and this is only the beginning of a journey that leads Scotland’s seas on the road to recovery and replenishment. We’ll be there all the way to make sure the Marine (Scotland) Act, Marine Litter Strategy and other developments translate into real benefits for Scotland’s seas.
