Join our call for a Deposit Return System in Scotland

We're almost there! MSP's are beginning to listen - now's the time to push Scottish Government to lead the way on tackling the plastic bottle problem.

Plastic bottles and cans are becoming more and more of a serious issue, filling our oceans and littering our beaches where they harm our wildlife. Plastics are even entering our food chain, and we don't yet know the effect this will have on us.

We all need to take responsibility and do something about it - and we have an opportunity right now!

Please email your MSP asking them to sign a motion that was put down on March 1st calling for a Deposit Return System.

Such systems have been known to reduce littering by 80%.

If you want to see a system where people across Scotland can return their bottles and cans in return for cash, please ask your MSP to support the motion.

Take action:
Enter your post code here to find your local and regional MSP contact details, and email to ask them to sign the Deposit Return for Drinks Containers motion, S5M-04283.

We’re almost there.

The more MSPs that support this motion, the more likely we are to gain support across Parliament to introduce such a system.

What really strikes a chord with MSPs is the personal touch. That’s why we’re asking you to write a personal email to your MSP explaining why you want them to support this motion.

You could include things like:
  • If littered bottles and cans are a problem in your area, give details.
  • Do you think this impacts wildlife? Say so. What other impacts do you think this has?
  • If you think such a system would decrease littering in your area, tell them.
  • Don't forget to thank them if they've already signed it.

If you receive a response, please forward it to Catherine.Gemmell@mcsuk.org.

We’d like to thank all of you that have supported our campaign so far, from signing the “Have you got the Bottle?” petition to reporting your #wildbottlesightings, or sending us your beach litter data. MSP’s are now taking notice!

Thank you!
