Adopt-a-turtle - The Christmas Gift That Makes A Difference!

24 November 2005

Marine turtles have been around since the time of the dinosaurs, but sadly
now face extinction. Adopt-a-Turtle this Christmas and give a wonderful,
unique gift, which makes an essential contribution to ensuring the survival
of these remarkable creatures. As well as a gorgeous, cuddly turtle toy and
a personalised certificate, your pack will contain fascinating information
about your chosen turtle species and updates on how your support is making a
meaningful difference to their future. Visit the website of the Marine
Conservation Society (MCS) at www.mcsuk.org or call MCS on 01989 566017 to
adopt-a-turtle today.

The Marine Conservation Society is dedicated to the protection of the marine
environment and its wildlife. Since the scheme was launched 2001, thousands
of people have adopted a turtle, and are kept up to date with conservation
project progress through the MCS Talk Turtle newsletter. Not only do
adopters really love the adopt-a-turtle pack, but they are also very
concerned about what they can do for marine turtles. This was highlighted
earlier this year, in response to an emergency MCS appeal for funds to help
the Turtle Conservation Project (TCP) in Sri Lanka after the tsunami. The
disaster hit the TCP hard, swept some of their staff away forever and
devastated the coastal communities they work with. MCS turtle adopters were
there for them at their hour of need and rose to the challenge by raising
over £10,000 for the appeal. So why should you adopt a turtle? Because by
doing so you can really make a difference, not only to the conservation of
marine turtles at home and abroad, but also to the lives of the
researchers, conservationists and communities around the world who are working
so hard to ensure the future survival of our ancient mariners, the marine turtles.

MCS is making a difference, but there is still so much to be done and many
more turtle conservation projects that need help. MCS continues to receive
applications from deserving projects that urgently need funding. With your
help, MCS can work towards ensuring a safer future for endangered turtles,
so please offer your support and adopt-a-turtle for someone special this
Christmas.
