Your Beach Needs You!
13th April 2010Help get Langland ready for summer
With the weather picking up, many people will have visited the beach for the first time over the last few days, but sadly they may be finding more than sand between their toes.
Your favourite local beach may not have been cleaned since the end of last September, which means many months of beach litter could be lying just where you want to set up your windbreak or lay down your picnic blanket.
That’s why the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) and keen local volunteers will be carrying out a litter survey and beach clean, as part of the MCS Beachwatch project, at Langland Beach, Gower on Sunday 18th April starting at 10 am.
Gill Bell, MCS Welsh Officer, says: “We all love to be beside the seaside but litter on Welsh beaches is higher than the national average and spoils everyone’s’ enjoyment of the beach. It doesn’t just impact on people visiting but also wildlife.”
“Let’s return Langland beach to the jewel in the Gower that it should be, by helping to clean it up! Everyone is welcome to come along to our litter survey and beach clean on Sunday.”
Langland is the “official” Welsh beach of the Marine Conservation Society.
Location: Meet at the Car Park, Langland, Gower - From Swansea head towards Mumbles then follow signs to Langland. Please meet at the Car Park by 10 am and bring along sensible clothing and footwear. Children are welcome but must be supervised by a parent or guardian. Gloves and equipment will be provided. The beach clean will take about one hour.
