Dive into Conservation...

Seasearch is a national volunteer diving project, that involves and trains recreational divers in recording the UK's fascinating and varied marine habitats and species.

We still know very little about the marine life around our coast and yet much of it is under threat from human activities and development.  Seasearch trains volunteer recreational divers how to identify and record the marine habitats and animals they see underwater. The information collected from Seasearch dives helps to identify where habitats and species occur, what is special about an area and helps everybody responsible for marine conservation to better protect our marine life. The data collected has already been used to identify sites where better protection may be needed.

Seasearch was set up by and is co-ordinated nationally by MCS with the support of a wide range of nature conservation agencies, diving associations and Wildlife Trusts. The project has an extensive UK-wide network of trainers and regional co-ordinators to provide courses and support for new and experienced participants. Participants receive regular feedback and information on the programme, opportunities to join Seasearch surveys and survey results. For more information and how to get involved go to the Seasearch website.
