Adopt-a-Beach and Beachwatch are MCS beach litter survey projects, where volunteers 'adopt' their local stretch of beach and carry out surveys quarterly for Adopt-a-Beach or annually for Beachwatch.  If you are interested in finding out how you can help reduce litter on beaches visit the Adopt-a-Beach website click here for further details. Litter on UK beaches has almost doubled in the last ten years and Wales has the second highest levels of litter in the UK. Litter is lethal to wildlife and has been known to entangle many species including whales and seabirds. Wildlife also mistake litter for food and ingest (eat) harmful litter which can kill them.

MCS are campaigning to reduce litter at source, both on a national and international level. In Wales, MCS are part of the Coastcare network, working closely with all partners, in particular with Keep Wales Tidy . Litter workshops are planned throughout Wales and if you are interested in holding an event contact the Welsh Officer. MCS are also campainging for better water quailty through our Good Beach Guide.
