Seasearch Logo (c) SeasearchSeasearch is a national project for recreational divers who want to do their bit for the marine environment whilst learning more about the fascinating habitats, plants and animals beneath the waves.

We still know very little about the marine life around our coast and yet much of it is under threat from human activities and development.  Seasearch provides traning for recreational divers in how to identify and record what you see on your dives.  The information collected by Seasearch divers helps fill the gaps in our knowledge about what lives where, what affect human activities are having on marine life, and helps advise government and policy makers on actions needed to protect the UK's amazingly diverse marine wildlife and habitats.

Seasearch is a partnership project, led by the Marine Conservation Society and launched in 2004. An extensive UK-wide network of trainers and regional co-ordinators provide courses and support for new and experienced participants. The data collected has already been used to identify sites where better protection may be needed and participants receive regular feedback and information on the programme and results.
