Divers are amongst the few that can experience and marvel at the huge variety of life and fantastic natural features to be seen beneath our seas. The Marine Conservation Society was originally established by keen divers who not only appreciated the beauty of UK marine life, but were also concerend about the threats they face. Through underwater surveys and support for campaigns against pollution, divers have helped MCS increase our knowledge of marine life and tackle issues such as sewage and litter. Many MCS campaigns will benefit divers as well as wildlife - cleaner seas and beaches, areas where wildlife can thrive protected from fisheries and other activities - are just examples of how MCS is working to protect our seas now and for future generations.
MCS works closely with the key diving associations - BSAC, ScotSAC and PADI - to involve divers in conservation. As a diver you can dive into conservation by:
- Taking part in surveys such as Seasearch
- Reporting your sightings of basking sharks and turtles
- Supporting Beachwatch by doing underwater clean ups
- Following the Coral Code and Underwater Photographers Code
- Supporting campaigns such as Marine Reserves Now
- Supporting the only UK charity dedicated to saving our seas - join MCS online.
