Mozambique Marine Turtle Working Group (MMTWG): Mozambique has thousands of kilometres of coastline and is known to host five of the seven marine turtle species, but little is known about their status and current levels of exploitation. While some individuals and organisations have been carrying out small turtle research and conservation projects along the coast of Mozambique, there has been little coordination. With support from MCS, Forum Natureza em Perigo (FNP) has established the first ever Mozambique Marine Turtle Working Group, a national networking group of organisations and individuals who are now coordinating marine turtle conservation efforts and who will take national marine turtle conservation to a new level. In 2005, further support from MCS enabled MMTWG to establish tagging and rookery monitoring training workshops at coastal sites important for marine turtles.
