TCF-funded 2003
Marine wildlife surveys: For several years the Marine Environmental Research (MER) vessel Forever Changes has been surveying the seas for basking sharks off the west coasts of England, Wales and Scotland. With support from MCS, the crew also recorded any turtle encounters as well as all marine litter, fishing activity and jellyfish each summer from 2003 to 2005. Leatherbacks are rarely sighted, but through this project we are able to gather a great deal of information about the environmental factors that may impact on them or influence their distribution. The data from this project is now being entered by the MCS and will be analysed in 2007. For more information about MER's surveys, click here.
