Ussangoda is a small fishing village just over 20km to the west of Rekawa and immediately to the east of the Wildlife Sanctuary at Godavaya (gazetted at the same time as the Rekawa Wildlife Sanctuary, specifically to protect the leatherback turtles that nest there).

Zahra consistently inter-nested at Ussangoda between her nestings at Rekawa and remained just offshore of Ussangoda headland for about 1 month before her tag stopped transmitting, suggesting that this is her home. Her journey represents the shortest straight-line distance that any of the turtles tagged in this study have travelled from Rekawa to their resident foraging grounds.
