UPDATE 14.03.07: Sayuri's tag was transmitting intermittantly up to her last transmission on the 23.01.07 (inaccurate, so not plotted). She appears to have settled off the coast close to Shirali in the Uttar Kanada district of Karnataka.

Sayuri was the fifth turtle to be satellite tagged in Sri Lanka. Her name means Ocean in Sinhala and she was tagged after her 4th nest of the 2006 season. Sayuri's tag was supported by The Deep Aquarium in Hull, who ran a turtle naming competition and thereby also gave Sayuri the English name of Emerald.

After her release, Sayuri nested another 5 times on Rekawa beach, with her last clutch of eggs being laid on the 10.10.06. She then started her post-nesting migration, rounding Cape Comorin 11 days later, after which she has continued northwards along the west coast of India.
