Our oceans support an estimated 10 million species or more. Less than 3% of these have been identified to date. Many "families" of animal found in the sea can be found nowhere else - they do not have equivalents on land. From the microscopic to the enormous, marine species are beautiful, fascinating, and very diverse.
Life in UK seas is as colourful and magnificent as that found anywhere else in the world’s oceans. Yet it faces many threats, from fishing to pollution which need to be addressed if our seas are to thrive in the future.
