A report about the public sightings of basking sharks, within UK waters, reported to MCS within 2006. We report on:

1. The number of sightings (and compare 2006 to previous years)
2. The spatial and temporal distribution of sightings
3. Shoal size
4. Shark behaviour
5. Shark size

Highlights include:

• the largest number of reports for any year since 1987
• the largest number of sharks for any year since 1987
