education

a learning experience

The sea is fascinating to people of all ages, and the life it contains is diverse, colourful and amazingly different to that found on land. From plankton through to whales, pollution through to food and transport, there is so much to learn about the sea. There are many ways that your school can get involved in learning and protecting our precious marine life:

  • The Cool Seas Roadshow could be coming to your school or a special event near you! The Roadshow features life-size inflatable models of whales, dolphins, sharks, turtles, seals and porpoises in dynamic and interactive workshops given by marine wildlife education specialist, Andy Starbuck. Pupils will be introduced to marine wildlife – from anemones to basking sharks – and will learn the importance of marine wildlife and its conservation.
  • Sponsored activities like the MCS Coastal Challenge can be great fun as well as raising fitness levels. UK school students have recently used events like art and fashion shows, sandwich sales and MUFTI days to raise funds for MCS.
  • Juvenile Frenzy is a turtle project which is not only  fun, but also gives an insight into the complexity of the marine environment AND  the opportunity to take action and do something to help.
  • Lots of useful resources are available free from MCS, including the balloon release factpack, factsheets, and codes of conduct.
  • The marine world section of this site contains information on marine wildlife and the threats it faces.
  • Read about useful resource sites.
